Why do I paint? I paint because I see something, touch something, or feel something. The natural world around me offers limitless inspirations. I have always been more interested in capturing the essence of an experience. I use nature to recreate and play out my memory and visions. I keep tons of sketchbooks. I always have sketchbooks on hand, so I can respond spontaneously. From a small sketch, my painting sort of develop without too much planning. I like to improvise and move things around. My goal is to try to express the spiritual quality of the moment. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to achieve that poetic elegance I aim for. Whatever I start with, I never know what I end up with. That's the creative and fun part. Painting is a journey of discoveries. My challenge as an artist is to keep seeing and searching for that special time and place that will animate my emotional experience. Whether it's realistic or impressionistic, I try to engage a viewer with an interesting palette. By surrounding myself with harmonious and pretty colors, I hope the magic and beauty of the natural world comes through in my work.
